Edible Seattle March/April 2019

I had the pleasure of capturing images of Namaste Community Garden, an urban farm that provides free land plots to immigrants and refugees in South Seattle. Many of the farmers are Nepali-speaking Bhutanese refugees who have resettled in the Seattle area after fleeing persecution, internment camps and ethnic cleansing perpetrated by the Bhutanese government during the 1990s. Today, there are about 2,000 Bhutanese refugees who have resettled in Washington state. Farmers are given their own plot of land to nurture and sustain their families and community. Namaste is a really special project supported by the @theirc@newrootsorganic and many local Seattle patrons.
